تعمل هذه القطعة كحلقة وصل كهربائية أساسية بين عجلة القيادة (الريز) وباقي أجزاء السيارة. وظيفتها الأساسية هي الحفاظ على اتصال الكهرباء مستمراً أثناء دوران المقود يميناً ويساراً لتشغيل:
​وسادة الهواء (Airbag) الخاصة بالسائق.
​منبه السيارة (البطارية / الكلاكسون).
​أزرار التحكم الموجودة على المقود (مثل الراديو، مثبت السرعة، وغيرها).

​Rôle principal : Elle assure la liaison électrique permanente entre le volant et le système électrique du véhicule, même lorsque vous tournez le volant dans tous les sens.
